Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — Firefighters from across the state were in Raleigh Saturday for the long-awaited unveiling of the Fallen Firefighter Memorial.

The bronze sculpture is now in Nash Square, and honors firefighters who lost their lives in the line of duty.

The memorial is the project of the North Carolina Fallen Firefighters Foundation. It's the organization's way to honor nearly 90 firefighters who have died in the line of duty in North Carolina since 1972.
