LINDEN, N.C. — Authorities have charged a mother, her daughter and 14 of her friends, including four 15-year-olds, with underage possession of alcoholic beverages at a house party in Harnett County.
Investigators said the party took place April 28 at Janita Brown's home on Overhills Road. Agents with the N.C. Alcohol Law Enforcement Division and Harnett County Sheriff's deputies responded after a School Resource Officer at Overhills High School alerted them that a number of high school students were attending a post-prom party where alcoholic beverages were being served.

"(The officers) saw a lot of beer sitting around...and there were several of the underage people who were intoxicated," said Harnett County Sheriff Larry Rollins.
Brown, who is a teacher's assistant at Highland Elementary School, was charged with 15 counts of aiding and abetting underage possession of alcoholic beverages.
Brown's daughter, 17-year-old Dawn Noel Brown, was charged with underage possession of alcoholic beverages and 14 counts of aiding and abetting underage possession of alcoholic beverages. She is a student at Overhills High.
Among those charged with underage possesion of alcohol:
Authorities said that the teens attended Overhill High and four other schools in the area.
They also said that Brown is cooperating with the investigation. She has been suspended from her job without pay pending the results of the investigation.
