Durham's Mayor Race Heats Up
DURHAM, N.C. — Durham's mayor race heated up as Durham City Council member Thomas Stith said Monday that he'll throw his hat in the ring.

Stith said that three-term Mayor Bill Bell has been ineffective in fighting the Bull City's rising crime rate.

Stith plans to officially announce his candidacy Tuesday from the City Hall lobby.

Stith has served on the city council for two terms. He stood as a Republican for Lieutenant Governor in 2004.

Bell, who has not filed for re-election, declined to comment on Stith's candidacy.
