RALEIGH — Raleigh police officer D.L. left Wake Medical Center Tuesday and returned home, nine days after being shot while working off-duty.
Powell was working off-duty at the Top Rank Sports Bar on Poole Road July 29 when he was shot five times. His alleged assailant, Custudio Olea Ramirez, is being held in the Wake County jail.
Powell said one of the things that sped his recovery was the hundreds of well wishes he received from people.
"The citizens of Raleigh have been fantastic. My family and I thank you from the bottoms of our hearts for all of the tremendous support," he said.
Powell has months of extensive physical therapy before him to strengthen his left arm and right leg.
