Thieves Steal Items From Vance County Children Who Lost Parents

Posted August 6, 2001

— Five children between the ages of 7 and 15 are continuing to feel a loss. In March, police say their father killed their mother, then killed himself.

Their aunt, Donna Bills, is now caring for the children, but someone broke into their old house and stole their belongings, $6,000 worth of TV and electronic items -- gifts from their mother the last Christmas she was alive.

"It's very hard, but I can't always let out my feelings because the children are always right there with me," Bills says. "I try so hard to hold it in, but sometimes I can't do it. I just can't do it."

The volunteers who are building the addition to the house desperately need help -- roofers, plumbers, stonemasons -- anyone who can lend a hand. There is also a fund set up to help the children. Donations can be made in the Taylor Family name at the BB&T Bank in Henderson.
