Durham Firefighters Kick Off 'Fill The Boot' Campaign
Posted August 3, 2001
DURHAM — Some Durham firefighters are going to spend the next couple of days looking for a handout.
The Muscular Dystrophy Association's "Fill The Boot" campaign kicked off Thursday with firefighters in the streets asking for donations. The firefighters were working up a sweat, but they say helping kids out is a job they take very seriously.
"I try to be friendly, try to greet people with a smile and sometimes, you have got to be a little forceful with the boot and guilt them to give me some money," says Joe McKeller of the Durham Fire Department.
Firefighters have been teaming up with the Muscular Dystrophy Association for nearly 50 years. Durham firefighters will be back on the streets trying to fill their boots Friday and Saturday.
