Crop Duster Crashes In Nash County Field

Posted Updated

NASH COUNTY — A crop duster crashed in a Nash County tobacco field at about 5:20 Tuesday afternoon. The pilot is listed in stable condition at Nash General Hospital.

Pilot Harold Braswell Thompson was spraying the tobacco field when his plane clipped a utility pole. That sent the plane tumbling into the tobacco. The plane was completely destroyed.

Rescuers at the scene say Thompson freed himself from the wreckage and walked away.

"It was kind of hard to find a pilot seat in that thing. The pilot's wrapped around in a cage and that's what saved his life," said Barry Edwards of the Red Oak Volunteer Fire Department.
