Truck Driver Critically Injured In Interstate 95 Wreck

BENSON — A truck driver is in critical condition after an accident along Interstate 95 Monday night.

The wreck happened around 7 p.m. in the northbound lanes at mile marker 76 in Johnston County.

Three tractor-trailers were involved in the crash.

Troopers say two tractor-trailers werre travelling side by side when they slowed down and came to a stop for an accident ahead of them.

A third tractor-trailer, driven by Ted Mitchell, 29, of Columbia, S.C., was in the inside lane. Troopers say he failed to his reduce speed, struck the truck in front of him, then swerved and hit the tractor-trailer in the outside lane.

Mitchell was taken to UNC Hospitals, where he is in critical condition. No one else was seriously injured.

The Highway Patrol says charges are pending.
