Nortel Names Former IBM Exec as Chief Marketing Officer

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. — Lauren Flaherty, a former executive with IBM, will be the next chief marketing officer at

Nortel

.

Flaherty will assume the Nortel position on May 1. She will oversee the telecommunication gear manufacturer's marketing strategy, brand development, advertising and internal as well as external communications.

"Lauren Flaherty has the credentials and proven world-class experience to lead our efforts in re-establishing the Nortel brand as a communications powerhouse," said Mike Zafirovski, Nortel's president and chief executive officer. "She joins us as a member of the executive team and she will be intimately involved in all aspects of our corporate planning and execution."

Flaherty worked for 26 years at IBM. Her most recent position was vice president of worldwide marketing for small and medium business. She will be based at Nortel's headquarters in Toronto.
