RALEIGH, N.C. — Authorities are searching for a 16-year-old mentally handicapped girl who went missing Saturday afternoon.

Person County authorities and family members said Amy Dennis, who has the mental capacity of a 12-year-old, was last seen at about 12:45 p.m. Saturday at her aunt's home in Timberlake, N.C.

From Auburn, N.Y., Dennis was staying with her aunt at the time of her disappearance. Officials are unsure whether she left the house on her own or if foul play is involved in the disappearance.

Dennis is described as a white female, 5 feet 2 inches, and weighs about 120 pounds. She has brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a white short-sleeve shirt, blue Capri shorts and flip-flop sandals. She also has a homemade permanent tattoo of a heart with an arrow through it on her left arm between her wrist and elbow, according to her mother.
