Sandra Odom, 28, was appointed an attorney during her first court appearance Monday.
She is charged with involuntary manslaughter in the drowning death of 4-year-old Jarrett Odom.
Odom says the boy drowned in the family pool July 5. Jarrett's twin brother Garrett was also hospitalized.
Police say Odom was watching her twin stepsons and her five other children at the time of the drowning.However, they say her account of what happened seems to conflict with the 911 call she made.
As prosecutors pursue a case against Odom, a judge says she cannot be alone with her children.
"I am going to make it a condition of the bond that she is not to be alone in the residence... the child is not to be left alone with her at any time pending further hearings on this matter," says the judge.
Odom and her husband have a six-month-old son who is currently in their care.
Garrett Odom is living with his biological mother while Odom's four older children are living with a grandparent in Florida.
Odom remains free on bond. Her next court appearance is scheduled for late August.
