A candidates' forum pits incumbent Nifong, Freda Black and Keith Bishop against each other in Durham.
Nifong was promoted to his current position last year.
Black worked for more than a decade at the District Attorney's Office with Nifong.
The North Carolina State Bar censured Bishop in 2001 after finding he constantly interrupted and stonewalled the defense during a civil case.
The forum begins at 5 p.m. and is expected to run past 6 p.m.
