Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — Lulu

has picked three books based on blogs, or "blooks", as the first winner of its "Blooker Awards".

"Julie and Julia", a book about "extreme cooking" won in the non-fiction category over "Belle De Jour: The Intimate Adventures of a London Call-Girl." Julie Powell of New York wrote the cookbook, which started as a blog tracking her attempt to prepare all 524 recipes contained in the 1961 cookbook "Mastering the Art of French Cooking" by Julia Child.

Cherie Priest won the Blooker award for fiction with "Four and Twenty Blackbirds", a ghost story based in Tennessee.

Zach Miller won the Blooker in the comic-blooks category with "Totally Boned".

The

Blooker prizes

are based on the Booker, a book prize awarded in Great Britain.
