Former Fayetteville Police Officer Charged With Raping Child

FAYETTEVILLE — A man who took an oath to serve and protect his community has been charged with sexually abusing a young girl.

Lawrence Roy Hall Jr., 38, is charged with first degree rape of a child, first degree sex offense of a child and taking indecent liberties with a minor.

According to the arrest warrant, the alleged sexual abuse happened numerous times between November of 1999 and June 2001. Hall was a Fayetteville police officer at the time.

Hall resigned from the police department before his arrest. He is being held in isolation the Cumberland County jail under a $100,000 secured bond.

The charges are the result of a lengthy investigation by the SBI, the Cumberland County's Sheriff's Office and the Fayetteville Police Department.

The sheriff's office is involved because the alleged abuse happened in its jurisdiction.
