FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — More charges have been filed against a Cumberland County man accused of abusing his girlfriend's toddler.
Three-year-old Samahn Varner died at the hospital early Tuesday morning. Donald Kerns III had previously been charged with felony child abuse.
An autopsy Wednesday determined the little boy died from blunt force trauma to the head. Kerns is now charged with first-degree murder.
Varner was in Kerns' care because his mother is in the hospital.
