Mud, Runoff To Blame For Cary Pool Closing

Posted Updated

CARY — Some people in Cary are having trouble beating the heat after a mudslide dumped its sediment into a swim club's pool.

The baby pool and lap pool at the Lochmere Swim and Tennis Club in Cary are closed due to runoff from Monday night's storm. The cleanup is expected to take a couple of days.

"All of the mud just came straight into the pool and over into our Highlands facility as well, but there is nothing we can do about it," says club director B.J. Pendergrast. "Floyd and all the hurricanes that came through here did none of this damage. We had some trees down, but the water stayed clear."

Luckily, the water is still clear at one Lochmere pool.

The same problem is plaguing homeowners as well. They say the mud in their private pools is not covered by home insurance, and they are having to foot the bill for the cleanup.
