Freedom Fest 2001 Takes Off At Pope Air Force Base

Posted Updated

POPE AIR FORCE BASE — The sky above Pope Air Force Base was all abuzz Saturday, but it was not training exercises.

Freedom Fest 2001, a kind of open house for Pope Air Force Base and Fort Bragg, was in full swing.

The U.S. Army Golden Knights Parachute Team jumped out of a plane to thrill the crowd, and the airfield assault demonstration helped shake things up a bit.

For those who wanted to tone it down some, they could check out the static displays on the ground.

The Thunderbirds, the Air Force's precision flying team, also performed.

The show goes on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
