Twin Who Survived Drowning Has Condition Upgraded To Fair

CHAPEL HILL — A four-year-old boy whose twin drowned Thursday is still in the hospital and his condition has been upgraded to fair.
Investigators now believe that the boy's stepmother, Sandra Odom, was the only adult in the house at the time and was watching her five other children in addition to the twins, Garrett, who survived, and Jarrett, who did not. Police are not giving very many details on how the boys went under or if any charges could result from this.
A neighbor says that the twins appear to belong to a large family.
"Most of the time they are supervised by their parents. Either the mother or the father's outside. I believe there are five to seven kids that live in the house. I'm not sure of the exact number," the neighbor says.
The twin's great-aunt says that the boys just turned four on Monday.
