Car Used in Fatal Drive-By Shooting Found

Posted July 6, 2007

— A car police believe was used by the gunman in the fatal shooting of a Chapel Hill teen last week was found Friday.

Quincy Bowens, 15, a student at Smith Middle School, was shot June 26 outside his aunt's apartment in Durham, police said. A car driving on Roxboro Street fired several shots at the apartment complex, and Bowens was hit as he pulled his 2-year-old cousin to safety, police said.

Investigators said they don't believe Bowens was the intended target in the shooting.

Police on Friday said they located the gold, four-door Saturn from which the shots were fired. The car was found behind a North Hyde Park residence, police said.

Investigators have said the Saturn was driven by a black man with a medium complexion and dreadlocks or braids. There have been conflicting reports about how many people were in the car at the time of the shooting.

Anyone with information about the shooting, the car or its driver is asked to call the Durham Police Department at 919-560-4440 or Durham CrimeStoppers at 919-683-1200.

Quit with all the racist comments. People are people. I just hope and pray that they catch the killers ASAP.

yruatwit - you never see post with curly head white kids doing drive bys because normally they just go into Mcdonalds, malls or to casino's and just start shooting the place up with no rhyme or reason except that someone in school has picked on them their entire lives or they are just so depressed because their wives just left them. Nevertheless they are all sensless crimes.

More racist tripe on this thread. Y'all post comments like this when Raleigh had its run of recent murders?

  • Halyard Jul 6, 2007

What if they just put out a weekly summary sheet on crime in Durham...doh!!, I know, it would take up too much space! (Just like this comment did) Silly me.

    What's your point?

  • yruatwit Jul 6, 2007

Why is it that in all of the drive by shootings that make the news, you never hear of a curley red headed white kid/man with freckles behind the wheel or as the shooter?

It is good that they found the car. It will ge better when they find the individuals responsible for the murder so that justice can be served.

"The car was found behind a North Hyde Park residence"

Were the people not aware there was a car in the back yard??? Or were these the people that did the shooting??? Hmmm makes me wonder. If there was a car behind my house for a few days just sitting I would have wanted it looked into further. Maybe just me???
