Durham, N.C. — A car police believe was used by the gunman in the fatal shooting of a Chapel Hill teen last week was found Friday.
Quincy Bowens, 15, a student at Smith Middle School, was shot June 26 outside his aunt's apartment in Durham, police said. A car driving on Roxboro Street fired several shots at the apartment complex, and Bowens was hit as he pulled his 2-year-old cousin to safety, police said.
Investigators said they don't believe Bowens was the intended target in the shooting.
Police on Friday said they located the gold, four-door Saturn from which the shots were fired. The car was found behind a North Hyde Park residence, police said.
Investigators have said the Saturn was driven by a black man with a medium complexion and dreadlocks or braids. There have been conflicting reports about how many people were in the car at the time of the shooting.
Anyone with information about the shooting, the car or its driver is asked to call the Durham Police Department at 919-560-4440 or Durham CrimeStoppers at 919-683-1200.
