Sanders Does Little in Debut; SkyChiefs Still Beat Bulls
Posted June 30, 2001
Syracuse, New York — Deion Sanders didn't do much for his new team last night, but a two-run homer and three RBIs by Cole Liniak were enough to carry his Syracuse SkyChiefs over the Durham Bulls.
Durham lost 4-1.
Terrell Lowery doubled and scored Durham's only run on Pat Borders' single in the seventh.
Liniak said after the game it was exciting to have a star like Sanders on the team.
Sanders didn't play like a star. He was zero-for-four batting leadoff as a designated hitter.
Sanders said in a news conference after the game that he was happy to be playing baseball again and he was having fun.
