Posted Updated

JOHNSTON COUNTY, N.C. — Four Johnston County teenagers suffered minor injuries from an accident Saturday morning in which speed is believed to have been a factor, the state Highway Patrol said.

The teenagers were traveling in a pickup truck when the driver, Sterlin Hunter Gore Broke, 16, lost control in a curve and hit a tree on Bizzell Grove Church Road near the intersection with Old Rock Quarry Road.

The vehicle was traveling at a minimum of 75 mph, according to the initial investigation, in a 55 mph speed zone.

Broke was charged with a seat belt violation and careless and reckless driving. Investigators said he was driving with a full provisional license.

No one in the truck was wearing seat belts. One of the teenagers who was injured had been sitting in the truck's bed at the time of the accident.
