KITTRELL, N.C. — Investigators in Vance County say a woman died while burning leaves near her home.
Authorities said 65-year-old Annie B. Thompson lost control of the fire and it spread to nearby woods.
While waiting for help, she ran back and forth to her home for water to put out the flames.
Investigators think Thompson may have suffered a heart attack and fell into the fire.
