GARNER, N.C. — Garner police are investigating an accident that caused the death of an 88-year-old man Friday evening.
Authorities said Sylvester Jones Thompson, of Hillsborough, was traveling south on
New Rand Road near N.C. Highway 50
at about 5:30 p.m. Friday when he crossed over the center line and struck a Chevrolet Blazer almost head-on.
Thompson, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was taken to WakeMed where he later died.
The occupants of the Blazer suffered minor injuries.
