Former Wake Educator Harriet Webster Dies

RALEIGH — The

Wake County school system

is remembering a leader and a friend.

Harriett Webster died Tuesday. Friends say she collapsed while speaking at a funeral.

For 21 years, Webster was a teacher in the Wake County Public School System. She was an assistant principal when she retired.

Webster also served on the school board for eight years. She chose not to run for a seat in the last election for health reasons.

Webster served as Wak eCounty Sheriff John Baker's campaign manager since he first ran for the post in 1978.

In 1999, the Wake County schools named its professional development center after Webster.
