Rezoning Clears The Way For Second Southpoint Complex

DURHAM — More changes are in store in Durham. Southpoint Mall will have a big neighbor across the street.
Monday night, the Durham City Council voted to rezone 50 acres for the proposed Renaissance Center at Southpoint.
The project includes an upscale hotel, office complex, and stores.
Some residents are against the Renaissance Center because they are worried about congestion and the loss of more land to development near their homes.
Construction is expected to begin early next year.
