FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Authorities say a man who had been reported missing was later found dead inside the trunk of a car.
Cumberland County sheriff's detectives said John William Fletcher, 48, of Fayetteville, was found Monday afternoon in the trunk of a car. The car was found abandoned along a dirt trail off Highway 53 near the Bladen County line.
Family members had reported Fletcher missing earlier on Monday.
The cause of death has not been determined at this time. Fletcher's body will be taken to the State Medical Examiner's office in Chapel Hill for autopsy.
