SBI Clears Durham's Worthless Check Program

Posted Updated

DURHAM, N.C. — It appears Durham's worthless check program may be on the up and up after all.

The program aims to collect money for businesses from people who have written bad checks.

Recently, Durham County District Attorney Mike Nifong asked the SBI to investigate after allegations surfaced about possible financial problems.

The state agency found insufficient evidence that any money ever changed hands illegally.
