RALEIGH — Students, teachers and parents who have complained that North Carolina tests are too tough are about to get some relief.
On Wednesday, the state school board discussed dropping the Iowa Test of Basic Skills, the Open-Ended Assessment of Reading and Mathematics and the High School Comprehensive exam. Dropping the three tests will save five testing days and $1.2 million.
The board also acknowleged errors made in this year's end-of-grade math tests.
"We want the processes in this case to get careful scruntiny because we want the system to work better," says Dr. Mike Ward, North Carolina School Superintendent.
An audit of the math test will take place later in June.
