Storm Hits Fayetteville Family's Home

Posted Updated

FAYETTEVILLE — Heavy winds, rain and lightning brought an unwelcome visitor to a Fayetteville family Friday.

A 50-foot tree came crashing down on the Lewis family's home thanks to an afternoon storm.

Underneath are two cars, including a 2001 Saturn and the family's laundry room, which now has a gaping hole in the roof.

Rick Lewis says although the damage looks bad, things could have been a lot worse.

"It looks like it pretty much demolished the car. There's a big hole in the house, water is gushing in, but my dog is OK," he says.

Lewis believes a lightning bolt struck down the tree, splitting it in half.
