Student Accused Of Taking Handgun To Raleigh Magnet School

A student at a Raleigh magnet school faces charges for allegedly taking a handgun to his school, according to the Wake County Sheriff's Office.

A school resource officer at Fred J. Carnage Gifted & Talented Magnet Middle School took the student, whose name was not released, into custody at about mid-morning Tuesday

In addition to facing a possible charge of possession of a firearm on school property, the student also faces an automatic 10-day suspension. The penalty for having a weapon in a Wake County school is a 365-day suspension.

Authorities have not released any other details about the case.
