Wake Representative Calls For Repeal Of Eye Exam Provision

Posted Updated

RALEIGH, N.C. — A budget provision that requires mandatory eye exams for all children entering kindergarten is under attack again.

On Tuesday, Wake County Rep. Nelson Dollar delivered a message to the Speaker of the House, who added the eye exam language to the budget.

"All I've heard from Speaker Black's office is we need to tweak the law," Dollar said. "That's not good enough we need to make a stronger message and repeal this legislation."

Several school systems are also opposing the eye exam bill. The State Board of Elections is investigating whether it's tied to questionable campaign contributions from optometrists.
