e-mail print friendly

Douglas Breeden, dean of the Fuqua School of Business at

Duke University

since 2001, is stepping down.

Breeden's resignation will take effect on June 30 of next year, the university said Monday. He plans to return to teaching and research on a full-time basis. Breeden is William W. Priest Professor of Finance at Fuqua.

"Under Doug's leadership, the size and quality of the faculty has increased, the school's finances have solidified and the endowment has grown substantially," said Duke Provost Peter Lange. "Significant investments have been made in teaching quality, the Ph.D. program has been expanded and the school's global reach has been extended through new programs and partnerships."

Breeden has also taught at the University of Chicago, Stanford University, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is chairman emeritus and co-founder of Smith Breeden Associates, a money-management firm in Chapel Hill.
