WILSON, N.C. — A man who died trying to help a motorist will not be forgotten. A youth center in Wilson has been dedicated to Todd Fletcher.
Fletcher was killed in October when he stopped on the Beltline to help a driver. He jumped the concrete barrier not realizing it was unpaved and fell to his death.
Even after Fletcher's death, people still talk about how he lived.
"He went out just the way, I guess, we all expected him to -- doing something he loved to do, and that was help people," said Charles Haynes, Fletcher's friend.
Fletcher was a mentor to the youth at Wilson Praise and Worship Church. He served God and his country too as a Navy veteran. He was also an aspiring police officer with the Rocky Mount Police Department.
