Veterans Honored At Capitol

Posted Updated

RALEIGH — Historians and military buffs gathered at the state Capitol Saturday to pay tribute to North Carolina's veterans. Memorial Day observances were held throughout the afternoon on the Capitol grounds.

Fifty years ago, Americans were fighting in the Korean War. Today, many historians are honoring veterans of that conflict.

"A lot of fighting men gave their lives or four years of their life only to come back and find that there weren't big parades and fanfare for their return like there had been (after World War II)." says historian Andy Sterlen.

Historians dressed in authentic uniforms helped the crowd appreciate what life was like for soldiers. They honored veterans from the American Revolution through the Gulf War.
