Artsplosure 2001: Spring Jazz and Art Festival takes place in and around Moore Square, an outdoor park in the middle of downtown Raleigh, on Saturday and Sunday. With something for all tastes and ages, music and art fill the streets and the air throughout the weekend.
The event is expected to attract 50,000 to 75,000 people over the two days. The event is free to the public.
You also have the chance to take in a few rounds of golf for a good cause. The 28th annualDuke Children's Classicwill take place both Saturday and Sunday.
Each year, the golf tournament welcomes a host of celebrities, corporate and individual sponsors and more than 500 volunteers. Through the years, more than $11 million has been raised for the Duke Children's Hospital and Health Center.
The event starts at 9 a.m. and continues until 5 p.m. Tickets are $5 for adults while children 12 and under are admitted free. The celebrity show begins at 9 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $10.
How would you like to travel the world without plane tickets and using less than a tank of gas? You can also do that this weekend at the Durham International Festival.
The free event, which runs Saturday and Sunday, features both international and multicultural activities. Music, food, interactive exhibits and craft booths will bring the community together for a good time.
In addition this year, Hispanic leaders want to use the event to promote a big project. They are planning to hold a radio broadcast entirely in Spanish.
"I think it's going to be an eye-opening experience for them," says Juan Echeverria, a human relations specialist in Durham.
The Durham International festival starts Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the Durham Civic Center Plaza. The event will continue on Sunday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Area students from UNC and N.C. State will begraduatingover the weekend. N.C. State's commencement activities will begin 9 a.m. Saturday. UNC will hold their commencement activities at 9:30 a.m. Sunday.
