WRAL.com Guide To The MEAC Tournament

RALEIGH, N.C. — Let the games begin. The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference basketball tournament kicks off its three-year run at the RBC Center in Raleigh.

The MEAC is made up of 11 historically black institutions -- North Carolina A&T State University, Howard University, University of Maryland-Eastern Shore, Morgan State University, Hampton University, Norfolk State University, Delaware State University, Coppin State University, Bethune-Cookman College, South Carolina State University and Florida A&M University.

The tournament moves to the capital city after a seven-year stint in Richmond, Va. There will be plenty of action on and off the court. This week, the festivities include performances from gospel recording artists Kirk Franklin featuring Mary-Mary, cheerleading competitions and the Triangle's own version of "Showtime at the Apollo," featuring TV personality Mo'Nique.

Plus, WRAL will be on hand as radio personality Tom Joyner brings his world-famous "

Sky Show

" to Raleigh. On Friday, thousands of fans will pack the Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts to hear singing sensation Stephanie Mills. Doors open at 5:30 a.m. The show starts at 6 a.m. Best of all, it's free.
