Mentoring Program Teaches African-American Women About Respect

Posted Updated

DURHAM — A Durham mentoring program held their end-of-the-year presentation on Wednesday.

Some UNC graduates started Sisters on the Move just two years ago. Their goal is to provide young African-American girls with mentors and teach them about self-respect.

"Our program teaches about African-American history, college, careers, health and fitness, sort of the whole gamut of skills, we think girls need, to be successful women," said mentor Shawntay Wright.

The next session of Sisters on the Move starts up in June.
