Area Colleges, Universities, Set To Start Graduating Thousands

RALEIGH — The members of the Class of 2001 are about to receive their degrees, and the first new Triangle graduates will be minted this weekend. Here are the schedules for Saturday and Sunday.
SATURDAY
  • Peace College, 10 a.m., on the College Green. Lt. Gov. Perdue is thecommencement speaker
  • North Carolina Central University will hold its Commencement exercises on Saturday May 12th at 9:00 am in the Old Kelly-Riddick Stadium. The president of the Ruffin Group will be the keynotespeaker. In case of inclement weather, exercises will be held at theMclendon Mcdougald Gynasium located on Lawson street
  • Saint Augustine's College will hold its commencement exercises onSaturday at 3:00 p.m. in the Raleigh Civic Center. HermanBoone, the high school football coach portrayed by Denzel Washington inRemember the Titans, will deliver the commencement address.
  • SUNDAY
  • North Carolina native Elizabeth Dole will deliver the keynote addressfor Meredith College's spring commencement ceremony at 10 a.m. on Sunday in McIver Amphitheater
