Posted Updated

DURHAM — When people are laid off, they usually get a pinkslip, pack up their desk and leave. However, that is not how it works atWaccamaw Homeplace.

The home items store is trying to help employees depart with somethingmore: a new job.

Sandra Harvin, operations manager at Waccamaw, is helping herassociates by calling competitors, offering who she believes are the bestemployees around.

"Coming from one manager to another, to offer your associate to them isgreat, especially in this Raleigh market," she says.

Many of the employees who were at the store when it first opened say they are actively looking for jobs, but they admits that they will mostlikely stay until the store closes for good.
