e-mail print friendly

One person was killed and six others were injured late Sunday morning in a multiple-vehicle accident that shut down both directions of

Capital Boulevard

in Wake Forest for nearly seven hours.

Four people were taken to WakeMed Hospital, authorities said. Two other people were taken to WakeMed North Healthplex. Their conditions were not immediately known.

Although the circumstances of the accident, which happened at about 11:30 a.m., were not immediately known, authorities said a Honda CR-V heading northbound on Capital Boulevard crossed the median and hit a pickup truck in the southbound lane.

The truck driver, Robert Wilder, died at the scene. A Pathfinder also got caught up in the accident and hit the back of the pickup truck. Another car had minor damage from flying debris.

The mile-long stretch of Capital Boulevard was reopened to traffic shortly after 6 p.m.

The accident is still under investigation.
