Arson Suspected In Pittsboro Fire

PITTSBORO — The State Bureau of Investigation now suspects arson is the cause of an early morning fire in Chatham County that forced about two dozen people from their residence.
The blaze started around 1:30 a.m. at the Summerfield Assisted Living home in Pittsboro.
Investigators say the fire started in the laundry room and spread to the attic.
Officials say everyone was evacuated safely, but heavy smoke and water damage prevented residents from going back inside.
The evacuated residents were relocated to a nearby community center and have now been moved to a sister facility in Graham.
