Rocky Mount Firefighter Returns To Active Duty After Bout With Cancer

ROCKY MOUNT — A Rocky Mount firefighter is back on the job full-time after his bout with cancer.
Travis Mayo is again handling hose alongside his buddies. He lost his hair during chemotherapy, so fellow firefighters shaved their heads.
Everybody's hair is finally coming back, and Mayo says he is glad to be working full shifts.
"I had to watch the trucks leave the station and go to the calls. I wasn't part of that, and that's what's near and dear to my heart -- being able to get out and fight fires and make a difference," he says.
Mayo says his battle with cancer is going well, and it is time to let his hair grow.
