TARBORO — A man who promised to help flood victims in the eastern part of the state is now in jail.
Robert McKee, owner of the Storm Troopers rebuilding company, was accused of bouncing checks and taking money from flood victims without doing the work.
McKee has not been seen since he disappeared from Edgecombe County last August. The State Bureau of Investigation almost caught him in Las Vegas, but he got away.
Authorities finally tracked down McKee in Kingwood, Texas, where he was doing repair work under a different name.
McKee is in the Edgecombe County jail, where he faces 27 separate charges. His bond is set at $1 million.
