Hoke County investigators plan to travel to Georgia to question a murder suspect. The man is accused of killing his new wife.

Dishony McFarland was arrested and charged with the murder of his wife, Fort Bragg soldier Dahlia Newman. He was on temporary duty at Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah.

Dahlia Newman, 26, was found dead in the bedroom of her house on Bayou Court in Raeford after she failed to show up for a military formation earlier in the day. She was a sergeant assigned to Delta Detachment 18th PSB.

Newman's first sergeant and another soldier went to the victim's house at about 6:30 p.m. to check on her, but noticed the rear door of the house open and damage to the house.

Neighbors said Newman had just moved into the Windwood Oaks Subdivision. Newman and McFarland had only been married six weeks.

The Department of the Army's Criminal Investigation Division (CID) and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation are also involved in the investigation.
