RALEIGH — A state legend moved out of his office Friday.

Agriculture Commissioner Jim Graham is retiring after 36 years and nine terms in office.

After watching the State Fairgrounds and the Farmers Market grow with the state's farming industry, he is talking about the job he loved for so long.

"It's better to be happy and enjoy 36 years of doing what you love to do, doing what you set out to do," he says. "That's a great accomplishment."

Graham says stepping down allows him to make a difference in a new way.

Meg Scott Phipps will be sworn as the new commissioner on January 6.
