CARRBORO — Two women have been attacked in Carrboro in the past four days. "It is surprising. It's a nice college town. You don't expect stuff like this to happen all at once," says resident Jennifer Hurtgen. -->

Carrboro police say a 21-year-old UNC student living at the Ridgehaven Townhomes was sexually assaulted Saturday morning by a man who had broken into the home earlier.

Four days later, a 33-year-old woman was raped at The Villages apartments. According to police, an armed attacker entered the apartment early in the morning while the woman was sleeping.

Investigators will not say whether the same person committed both crimes.

"In recent memory, we have not had anything similar to this," says investigator Matthew Dean of the Carrboro Police Department. "There are similarities in the details of the incidents that we cannot, at this time, go into for investigative purposes, but there are some marked dissimilarities in the details."

Both incidents took place at different times of the day. There was not a weapon involved, and money was taken in only one of the incidents. Police do not yet have a composite sketch of the suspect.

Carrboro police are looking for information on the attacks. If you have any information about the cases, you can call CrimeStoppers at919-226-CRIME.
