Clarence Wilkerson knows what this like to have a loved one missing and then found dead. His son, C.J., disappeared in Wake Forest and was found murdered.
"I think about him every day," he says. "His death is what keeps me going to try and reach out."
He is now using those thoughts to give him strength. In June, Wilkerson became the president of CUE, a non-profit center for missing persons, based in Wilmington.
"My dream is to make everybody more aware of situations, missing persons, abuse and neglect," he says.
In C.J.'s case, the family was dissatisfied with initial law enforcement efforts. Wilkerson wants to change that, while offering support at the same time.
"Being there and following it through all the way to the end is how he can be there for other families," says CUE's Monica Caison.
CUE is currently organizing a law enforcement convention. They hope further training of police will help aid in finding missing children and adults.
The group operates strictly from donations. They are currently searching for grant money.
