Thieves Pay Visit To Fire Station, Take Away Holiday Display

Posted Updated

FAYETTEVILLE — It will take more than the Grinch or Ebeneezer Scrooge to extinguish the holiday spirit at the Pearces Mill fire station. Someone swiped an elaborate display from right out front of the fire station.

For almost 10 years, it is been a tradition to see Santa and his sleigh at the Pearces Mill fire station during Christmas time. However this year, an evil grinch or two decided to pay the station a visit.

Sometime between late Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning, someone walked up and plucked Santa, his sleigh and reindeer right from the station's front yard. At first, Fire Chief Ronnie Marley thought it was a joke.

"We discovered that no one knew where it was at or knew anything about it, so we felt that there was pranksters out there that meant business," he says. "The problem we had with it was that someone took something that didn't belong to them."

Julie Kelly was so appalled that someone would steal the display that she donated her own Santa Claus to the fire department.

"I thought most importantly that they were stealing Christmas from kids because Santa is a belief in magic," she says.

Chief Marley says, to play it safe, he may bring the display inside at night, in case, the evil grinch decides to come back. If you have any information about the stolen decorations, you can call the station at910-425-5881.
