DURHAM — Someone may be out to steal the holiday spirit in the Triangle.

Thieves have taken 12 trees from the Booger Mountain Christmas lot on Duke Street in Durham. The trees are worth about $700.

The thieves did more than hurt the business. Most of the proceeds were going to a local boy scout troop.

"I'm sorry for them. If they'd asked, we could've given a deal on it, but they didn't ask," says manager Ed Shaver. "They had to take them, and that hurt everybody."

Even though there is a guard on duty every night, 22 trees have been stolen from the lot this year.
