KNIGHTDALE — Explosive growth means that many bedroom communities are becoming places where people also want to spend their waking hours. The Wake County town ofKnightdaleis enjoying a big boost.

New Employer Entices Workers By Keeping Them Near HomeWith a tight labor market, many new companies are offering special incentives to attract new employees. One Knightdale employer is finding workers who want to stay close to home.

Lowe's has a new store in the eastern Wake County town, and it is enticing new employees by offering convenience.

"A lot of people we're getting are already employed, coming out of the Raleigh area to stay in this part of eastern Wake County," says store manager Keith Brock.

Donna Seadorf lives on the Knightdale side of Raleigh and is looking to leave her job in the Research Triangle Park.

"RTP is just too outrageous to get there today and the gas money," she says. "So having a really nice business that offers benefits in the Knightdale area is really helpful."

John Whitfield is applying for a job at Lowes. He says his last job kept him away from his family.

"In my last job, I had to do an awful lot of traveling," he says. "One minute, I was in High Point, the next minute, I was in Fayetteville. So, I didn't know what was going on in my family." Church Expands to Meet GrowthLowe's held their three-day mass-hiring event in another sign of Knightdale's explosive growth -- a new $2 million expansion wing of Faith Baptist Church. The church's auditorium seats over 1,000 people -- numbers the pastor expects will come from new families moving to the area.

"This area is exploding," says pastor Mick Brown. "We sent out, last month alone, 152 letters to new move-ins to this general area, and that's not uncommon. It's over a 100 a month." New High School, Park PlannedThe town of Knightdale in partnership with Wake County and the county's school system bought a 170-acre tract of land just north of town. Wake County is planning to build a new high school on the property. Town leaders also have plans for a community park.
